3 dangerous mistakes you can make when creating a search engine friendly website
By Cyril Britto
Running a web designing company is not easy. The clients may have strange requirements, for example, he may want the site to have excessive graphical content and yet be search engine friendly. So when you hear the words from a client saying he wants a large flash animation as an intro, it means you are in trouble. These days, the word “SEO” is being used very commonly even though the true meaning of it is not known. It is not such an easy word to talk about all the time. If you are one of them who thinks SEO is simple, this article will help you understand the areas where you could go wrong and where you could be mistaken. 1. One of the most obvious mistakes you can do is this - a flashy site that you think will attract a large number of visitors due to its incredible beauty does not mean it is search engine friendly. People love to see the beauty of a website but search engines don’t. If you feel your website does not have to reach a wider crowd, then you could go your way. Too much graphical content can ruin the optimization of the website. It is of course important that the site has to be attractive but make sure you know how to balance graphic and text content. 2. Always be aware when you talk about a web designer and a web developer. There is a huge difference. Designer is the one who designs the templates and developer is the one who codes. May be a designer can do some basic coding for a website but that in no way means he is a good developer. A good Photoshop design that is coded cannot become a great website. The SEO principles the developers are trained for is completely different. Considering the keyword research, planning and implementing the hierarchical structure and using the Meta tags appropriately are a few aspects and strategies a good developer will concentrate on. 3. A lot of school high school kids these days design a website in no time with stunning designs. They do not charge a large amount of money too. A lot of companies fall into their traps since a good website is being designed and launched for lesser money. But does that mean those sites are search engine friendly? This is one reason those commercial websites miserably fail. Companies and organizations do not create websites because they like to. They do it because they have to spread their business further. In this case it is always advisable to invest a sum of money on a good SEO company and get a project done with high professionalism. Do not get blinded by cheap web designers. This will pay back on the company and affect the company’s online business.
I am a writer and an internet marketing professional from a Toronto web design company with extensive experience in search engine optimization and web design. I write on a wide array of subjects ranging from internet marketing to web design. PHP web development is another area that I specialize in.

I think it depends on what you are trying to do with the site. But I have to admit, Cyril, all of this SEO stuff gives me a headache.
