Google Local or Google Business Listings or Google Places are a set of 10 results (generally) shown when searches are run on Google for city specific terms. One can list his/her business on Google Local. All that is required is business name, business phone, business address(in that city) and few other relevant details. Since only a pack of 10 results (At most) is displayed on Google for such searches, one needs to work on certain factors to ensure their site is well optimized for local search and hope that it ranks in top 10. Here are some important tips to help you achieve that: #1. Ensure your address and phone number(with country and city code) is displayed properly on the website, preferably on all the pages of the site #2. Make sure your site is listed in major local search engines, yellow pages, local directories for that city #3. You need to do some link building using some of the local city specific keywords you are targeting #4. It is a good idea to run Google Adwords for sometime focused on those keywords #5.
