Nofollow vs Dofollow! SEO Basics

What is nofollow? Nofollow is an html attribute of the anchor tag which instructs search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing to not pass the link juice from the page to the target destination page. Need for nofollow links was felt by search engines to differentiate and to give the users the ability to differentiate between good links and spam links. How do you specify a hyperlink to be nofollow?
A nofollow hyperlink has an additional attribute besides the usual which makes the links nofollow e.g.
<a href="http://www.qondio.com" rel="nofollow">Qondio</a> Who came up with this idea?
The tag was designed by Google's Matt Cutts and Blogger.com's Jason Shellen somewhere in 2005 Place where it is used most frequently?
Nofollow is very popular with blog comments and most of the blogging software make the links in blog comments "nofollow" by default How is dofollow different from nofollow?
A normal hyperlink without any nofollow attribute is actually a dofollow link which passes link juice from the site to the linked site (yes there is no attribute value "dofollow")
